What to Do in a Dental Emergency
Handle the tooth by the crown only — do not touch the root. Rinse gently if dirty without scrubbing. Reinsert it into the socket if possible, or keep it moist in milk, saliva, or Hank's Balanced Salt Solution. Call us immediately — time is the critical factor in saving the tooth.
Take over-the-counter pain relief and apply a cold compress to the outside of your face. Do not place aspirin directly against the gum tissue. Swelling around the jaw can indicate a serious infection that requires urgent treatment — call us right away.
Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on the affected side. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy can provide short-term protection for a dislodged crown.
